Thought that there was a bona-fide bug, turns out that it's actually an incompatibility with PopCap-150 mod that I hadn't realised was still active (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=689780174&searchtext=popcap+150). Sorry for the inconvenience.
