Using the World Builder

Here are directions for using the World Builder, released yesterday as part of Company of Heroes 2's Turning Point Update.

1. You can start the WorldBuilder by running:
\Steam\steamapps\common\Company of Heroes 2 - Test Build\WorldBuilder_CoH_2.exe
2. You must save their scenario in:
\Steam\steamapps\common\Company of Heroes 2 - Test Build\CoH2\Data\Scenarios\MP\<MyScenario>
3. You can only create MP scenarios at this time.
4. If you run the following command from their Steam install folder:
Archive.exe -a CoH2\Archives\MPScenarios.sga -e CoH2\Data
The archive tool will extract all our MP maps, which you can then load to figure out how we’ve done things.
5. When you save their scenario it will generate a bunch of files, you can:
a. Edit the .options file in NotePad for more options.
b. Create a custom minimap by creating a file called <MyScenario>_mm_low.tga. If you add a boarder, the minimap_size in the .options file is the size in pixels of the playable area of the scenario (original size minus boarder size).
c. Create a custom preview by creating a file called <MyScenario>_mm_preview.tga. (Usually the same image as the minimap.)
d. Create a custom loading screen by creating a file called <MyScenario>_loading_background.tga.
6. You can create a Scenario Pack (an archive containing all scenario files including the custom ones named above) by going File->Export Package.
7. Any Scenario Packs in their …\My Documents\My Games\Company of Heroes 2\mods\scenarios\folder will be available in the Custom Match lobby.
8. All users must have the same Scenario Pack installed to be able to start a custom game.

I am stuck on the second one. I open the worldbuilder and when I try to load a scenario, can't find one. My whole Data\Scenarios is empty. No idea how to load up a map.

Ummm. you're supposed to make the scenarios with the world builder and save them in that folder right? It's empy if you haven't saved any scenarios there.

Well that is the point, I can't make a scenario because I don't have any scenarios to start with. It won't make a new map, it instead wants to open a scenario.

I opened the World Builder. I clicked on "new mp" or "file" and from the menu choosing "new multiplayer map" then as you say it wants to open a new scenario.. i just didn't click on 'open'. Instead I pressed 'enter' on my keyboard .. I could start build a map. I only have to figure out how to place the start + entry points for the players. I tried but it gets messed up. I am totaly new in this :p

I followed the instructions from Noun. I extracted the mp maps that relic made. I have the steppes frontline map in front of me. I removed the fog for a better view. I see the starting points and entry points from the players. There are more then 1 entry points for each player I wonder why. I'll read more of Nouns instructions ;)

I followed this tutorial from the coh1 world builder. It's almost the same but not completely. If somebody with experience in mapmaking could build a new step by step tutorial for coh2 like this one http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?207599-The-mapmakers-tutorials that would be great.

I am not seeing any "Test Build" anywhere in this at all.

    Please enlighten me.

    Thanks

Can someone run me through the map extraction?
    • 4. If you run the following command from their Steam install folder:
      Archive.exe -a CoH2\Archives\MPScenarios.sga -e CoH2\Data
The archive tool will extract all our MP maps, which you can then load to figure out how we’ve done things.

I'm stuck at Step 4 too.
I run "Archive.exe -a CoH2\Archives\MPScenarios.sga -e CoH2\Data" with the Windows Explorer. The Archive.exe starts and do something for a few seconds but my own maps are not displayed in the game.

I am finding a problem starting in general. I can find it in my files, but if I right click on it, it opens more files for the imagines. It is like an archive file than a program.

Anybody have an idea why I can't assign starting points to players? I managed to do something to make this available in my first scenario but I have no idea what I did.

Hi Carboni. To be able to capture points you need to check the 'paint capturable' in the spline tool options. OnkelSam explains it very well in this tutorial video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EL-AcuCX0Zc it starts at about 18:40 Good Luck :)

I found the World Builder even though, no one responded. However, I made two attempts at maps, but they would not export over. Now, it decided to not even let me look at the last files. It says what I have are read-only files. And also, at the same time, now World Builder won't even allow me to create a new multi-player map saying the following after I type anything from a one letter to an actual title:

"The Location 'C:\Users\Owner\Documents\my games\Company of Heroes2\Log Files\World Builder_11_20_00-27m\New Scenario. sgb' is not valid or the file name is too long (>64 char)
A valid folder would be e.g.' C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ Company of Heroes 2 \\CoH2\data\scenarios. Other valid paths can be found in the module file for the map. "

    1. I really do not know what these means, since I have never written, have anything with either tag lines mentioned and can't locate them.
    2. Even if I could locate them, where do I find the Target line to change this when Properties does not allow that.
    3. What does naming a new file have anything to due with above statement when the file I am trying to make does not exist, when nothing was made or saved.
    4. If the first problems are fixed, what was preventing the exporting and converting to a read only find.

This is really annoying since I made two full map originally. Now, they won't export and vanished, plus World Builder is now screwed. The last thing I did was close the program.

OK so although the initial instructions are somewhat accurate, they are incomplete and also assume that everyone knows how to open command windows that stays open so you can run a dos command with command lines which you need to run extract the maps:

    1. Go to your company of heroes directory in explorer:
    ( mine is : D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Company of Heroes 2)
    2. hold down SHIFT and right click a folder (like world builder, for instance)
    3. select "open command window here"
    4. command window pops up, type "cd.." to go back a directory in the tree. Now you are in the folder you were browsing with the "archive.exe" executeable.
    5. type in "Archive.exe -a CoH2\Archives\MPScenarios.sga -e CoH2\Data" as instructed in the first post in the thread to extract all the maps.

    hope that helps a bit
