With recent news of the new heavy tank battlegroups as well as any future new battlegroups being locked behinde a pay wall and not attainable via the merit system leaves me puzzled.
Since the games launch it was always understood that battlegroups will be attainable via the merit system. The actual dlc thats supposed to be the main attraction of a real money purchase are supposed to be new campaings, brand new factions, missions and scenarios etc. Proper expansion content that would alongside it offer new battlegroups with then only the battlegroups being also available via merit for the owned factions.
The decision to remove the ability to earn the battlegroups via merit is very damaging, because the idea to pay wall and sell tech trees for an existing owned faction in an RTS is crazy. Its just fundementally wrong, especially considering this game is heavily geard towards multiplayer play which makes it even more of a problem.
I understand the coh 3 battlegroups are more extensive then coh2 commanders, but its just fundementally wrong to pay wall tech trees in an RTS. If a player owns a faction, the player should be able to accsses its variations without it being paywalled.
The actual purchasable only dlc content, again, should be actual brand new factions, brand new campaings, missions and scenarios, premium skins and the like, not tech trees in an rts, it just sets a very dagerouse precedant that fundementally goes against what owning a faction in an RTS means.
I sincerely hope that relic reconsiders this decision.
