Game does not launch; briefly shows splash screen and then exits immediately

When I press the play button it briefly shows the splash screen and then automatically exits the game. Logfile shows the following:

I have been having the same issue since launch yesterday. I have not been able to play the game even once. I get the same error in my log that you have there. It's been radio silence from the developers who swear the issue is fixed.

Purchased the game, downloaded it, installed it and hit play.  The Company of Heroes logo appears for a few seconds and then crashes with a BugSplat.


Uninstalled it, reinstalled, downloaded again, verified everything and still a Bugsplat error.  This is very disappointing!

Updated the video drivers and that fixed the Bugsplat issue.  :-)

The first time you start it, you need to change the language to English in COH 3 (Steam), then you can change it to your own language.

More than a week after release and I'm still unable to start the game. So far I've tried the following:

- Verify integrity of game installation files; same problem
- Uninstalled and reinstalled the game completely; same problem
- Changed Steam language to English; same problem
- Closed ALL background applications, literally everything except for Steam; same problem
- Updated graphics card drivers; same problem
- Got a copy of the files that are supposed to be in My Documents\My Games\Company of Heroes 3 folder, as mine is totally empty apart from the error logfile; same problem

I am running Windows 10, not 11. I do not get a Bugsplat screen.
I get the CoH3 splashscreen for 1 second, then it disappears and nothing happens.

TLDR Delete save data folders under C:\Users\[USER]\Documents\My Games\Company of Heroes 3\users

For anyone wondering in the future I tried everything and here is what worked. It's a new one for me so that was exciting I guess. I found the issue by reading the crash report file which at the bottom says this:

GAME -- (WorldManager) Unable to load savegame desc 'Save:AutoSave\Campaign\italy\Turn 6 Mission Start Autosave0\metamap.sav': 'Not a valid chunky file! Save:AutoSave\Campaign\italy\Turn 6 Mission Start Autosave0\metamap.sav

I don't understand why this would even matter in launching the game but it resolved the issue. This save was from launch lmao haven't touched the game since then but I figured hey it was worth at try and here we are. I deleted all the folders under my user # folder and that's all it took. I hope this saves people some time

I have had a similar issue. Game starts to load then it crashes and this is in the log:

Armies stutter Italy Campaign no troubleshooting until today

In the Italy campaign, when you want to move armies or when the German armies move, there are always delays or stutters. Something has gone very wrong here since the last patches. As of today 05.09.2023 nothing has been changed no feedback from the developers for over a month this bug has already been detected without change!!!!

Even after the update 1.3.0 the game does not start !!!
The problem exists since 1.2.3 !

same problem! I completely deleted mygames/coh3 but no success! 
Reinstalled 3 times! 
Relic Support refers me to this forum! Great help!

Update 1.3.1, the error still exists.

Any updates???  Same problem here since day one.  Haven't been able to play game.  Have updated drivers, reinstalled game, verified game files... still splash screen loads for a second then closes.


It's ridiculous that this hasn't been addressed.

I can't launch this game anymore on steam. I've reinstalled it three times, checked if all my video drivers were up to date and they are. I've also deleted the users folder and it still doesn't resolve this issue. So to me it's the game which is utterly broken and as I played less than 20 hours, I can request a refund which I didn't hesitate to do. I also made sure to not recommend this game and left a heartfelt review about this disaster. I'll keep playing COH and COH 2 as those two work fine but COH3 can go to where I think it should go. Seriously Relic before releasing a game you should at least check if it works properly.
