NOTE: These Guidelines are applicable to games developed by Relic Entertainment and published by SEGA. For non-SEGA published titles, please refer to the relevant publisher’s content guidelines. You should read these Guidelines in conjunction with SEGA’s End User License Agreement published with the Relic Gaming Content and SEGA’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

1. You may use Relic Gaming Content to: (i) create, upload, livestream, and/or (ii) monetize videos on online live streaming websites (including advertising and partner programs of live streaming services and available to the public for free, such as the Twitch “Affiliate” or “Partner” programs or YouTube  “Partner Program”)  (the “Monetization Methods”). In instances where third party platforms provide a “free” and “premium” method of viewing content, Relic does not object to “premium” content being hosted as long as there is also a free method for audiences to view it. Neither you nor the operator of a platform should force a viewer to pay a fee to view your Relic Gaming Content.
   
   Other forms of monetization of our intellectual property for commercial purposes are not permitted, including but not limited to the creation of merchandise items using our intellectual property, such as any Relic or SEGA owned logos, trade or character name. Additionally, you should not  limit access to our content for payment of any kind, or license our content to another company for a fee of any kind. Exceptions to this are the Monetization Methods such as official Partner or Affiliate programs through Twitch and YouTube.
   
   
2. Prior to a game’s release date, you may only use Relic Gaming Content which has been officially released to the public (public demos, or beta builds where content creation has been explicitly allowed), or from promotional materials officially released (such as product trailers) and please do not post story spoilers which ruin the experience for others. Exceptions to this are instances where Relic has provided express prior written authorization for you to disclose pre-release game content.
   
   
3. You should include your own creative input and commentary on our Relic Gaming Content. It is not permitted to make videos and images that simply re-host or contain mere copies of our official Relic Gaming Content without any of your own creative input or commentary.
   
   
4. Whilst we encourage the creation of your own original content, you should avoid misinforming viewers, and/or making comments which could be considered harmful.
   
   
5. If you want to use the intellectual property of a third party (e.g. music) together with our Gaming Content, you are responsible for obtaining any necessary prior third-party permissions or approvals. Please note that some game soundtracks or songs may not be owned by us, but instead are licensed from an artist.  As this varies from game to game, please be aware that music may trigger content flags and potential removal of the video, and Relic and SEGA will be unable to provide assistance in relation to any counter claim you wish to raise. Game soundtracks and other game assets, such as voice content may not be posted or distributed separately and apart from our game footage.
   
   
6. You are not permitted to imply or state that your videos are officially affiliated with, sponsored, endorsed or approved by us, unless an explicit partnership contract for content creation has been entered into between Relic and/or SEGA and yourself.
   
   
7. Your content should not contain any information which promotes and/or encourages users to cheat or gain unauthorized access to Relic Gaming Content.
   
   
8. We reserve the right to remove any content that we believe is unlawful, infringing, inappropriate, offensive, or not in line with these Guidelines at any time.

Relic Gaming Material is provided ‘as is’ and SEGA and Relic do not make any representation or warranty regarding our materials. Accordingly, your use of the Relic Gaming Materials is at your own risk. We will update these Guidelines from time to time.  Please refer to the latest version before sharing your content.

1. What content is acceptable under the Guidelines? Additionally, what content is not acceptable?
   We encourage you to use our Relic Gaming Content in videos and images that feature your creative input and commentary. However, you may not simply upload or livestream an existing video or gameplay footage without your own creative input. You should also not post a copy of content created by someone else without their express permission, and please do not post spoilers.
   
   
2. Do the Guidelines cover video uploads or livestreams as well?
   These Guidelines cover both uploads and livestreams.
   
   
3. What exactly are the "Monetization Methods" as referred to in the Guidelines?
   Streamers can monetize their streams on services such as Twitch (e.g. the Twitch “Affiliate” or “Partner” programs) or YouTube (through “Partner Program”).
   
   
4. Can I sell content that I create and upload or livestream on a sharing service if it includes Relic Gaming Content or other creator content?
   No, you may not sell any videos, music or images that you have created using Relic Gaming Content or any other unauthorized intellectual property assets of a third party.
   
   
5. What about corporate entities, do the Guidelines apply to them?
   The Guidelines are only applicable to individual streamers.
   
   
6. Will there be cases where we will remove content from sharing services?
   Yes, we reserve the right to remove any content that we believe is unlawful, infringing, inappropriate, or not in line with these Guidelines. In some cases, we may take down videos on behalf of our third-party partners and in line with our End User License Agreement and/or Terms of Service.
   
   
7. What do you mean by content that is "unlawful, infringing, or inappropriate"?
   Examples of unlawful, infringing, or inappropriate content includes some of the following, although these are given for guidance only and there may be others as set out in more detail in our Terms of Service:
   • Content that infringes any of our intellectual property rights, our developers or any other third party intellectual property rights;
   • Content that violates any applicable laws or regulations;
   • Content that features pirated software.

The Code of Heroes is a guide for our journey together as a community. Should you experience or witness any behavior that deviates from or violates the Code of Heroes, please help us by following the reporting procedures below. We review all reports and do everything within our power to address them appropriately.

• All reports must be directed to enforcement@relic.com 
• Relic will investigate valid reports, and where appropriate, take action commensurate with the infractions detailed in this Code of Conduct. 
• All reports must be submitted in accordance with the following criteria. Failure to do so may result in your report not being investigated.
  
  

1 - TITLE 

• The title of your emails must read as follows: 
• "REPORT - (Offence type)" 
• For example, reporting a teamkiller would require the title: REPORT - Teamkilling
  
  

2 - PLAYER IDENTIFICATION

• A report must include the player's in-game name 
• A report must also include the player's STEAM 64 ID (17-digit number) or their Microsoft ID / Gamer Tag.
• To find a player’s STEAM 64 ID follow these instructions:
  • If playing CoH 2, you can view the offending player's Steam profile from the post-match screen.
  • Otherwise, press Shift + Tab when in-game to bring up the STEAM Overlay. 
  • Then follow the steps in these pictures. 

In the event the account name is displayed and not the STEAM 64 ID, use https://steamid.io/lookup to quickly convert it.

Here is an example of how to identify a player in your report:

• Player name: badcommunitymember 
• Steam 64 ID: 76534242323439390
  
  

3 - EVIDENCE 

Providing replay files is NOT sufficient evidence. 

• Please either provide video recordings or screenshots of the incident in question.  
• If the offence in question is teamkilling, please make sure you have highlighted a unit of the offending player so that their username is visible in the UI when teamkilling. 
• If providing video evidence, please host it on either YouTube or Vimeo and provide an unlisted link to the video in your report. Note that we will not be able to review "Private" YouTube links.  
• If providing images, either attached files or links to a recognized image hosting site.
  
  

4 - ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

• Indicate which game this report is in reference to. (CoH1, CoH2, or CoH3.)
• A short explanation (one to two lines in length) is helpful. Provide any additional context around the report, timestamps or further details describing exactly the conduct/behavior that you wish to report. 

EXAMPLE REPORT

Thank you for taking the time to make the community a better place! 

Reported infractions will be investigated by Relic promptly and the appropriate action will be taken. Relic may not report directly back to the player to update them as to the success of their report, and the status of the player in question. We will however attempt to confirm receipt of your report.

SANCTIONS 

The following sanctions outline the action Relic may take should a player engage in disruptive behavior or unacceptable conduct. Sanctions may be adjusted and applied at Relic’s sole discretion on a case-by-case basis, depending on situational context and the severity of the infraction. In most cases, Sanctions can be defined as a ban from official community spaces including but not limited to; forums, social platforms and/or the suspension of in-game participation or restriction of access to services. In-game bans will result in a member no longer being able to participate in Company of Heroes online play until the ban period has expired. Repeat offenses will scale severely, and a third major infraction will always result in a permanent ban. These Sanctions can also be extended to any additional accounts associated with a penalized member. Where possible, users will be informed of bans via an in-game message or an alternative means of communication (as determined by Relic at its sole discretion). 

Communication Ban 

• Chat violations will result in communication bans on our platforms and in-game. These vary in length from 48-hours to 1-month or more. 
  • Examples: Chat abuse, bullying, bigotry, personal attacks. 

Suspensions

• First time offenders or minor disruptive behavior can result in a temporary suspension from our platforms and/or in-game multiplayer. These vary in length from 48-hours to 2-weeks. 
  • Examples: Stream sniping, posting explicit content, teamkilling, griefing.
• Repeat infractions will result in subsequent suspensions ranging from 2-weeks to 6-months or more. 

Permanent Bans

• Relic does not take permanent bans lightly and will only apply these for serious and/or repeated infractions. Permanent bans apply to ALL Relic Entertainment products and services.
  • Examples: Threats or endangerment of others, doxxing, cheating, promoting illegal activity, posting Relic’s confidential content. 

In serious instances of disruptive behavior or unacceptable conduct that occurs on platforms not owned by Relic, we will review all verifiable information and apply Sanctions if deemed necessary. This also applies to offline conduct in the real world. 

APPEALS

Should you wish to appeal a suspension or ban, you may do so by emailing enforcement@relic.com with your Steam64 ID or Microsoft ID along with any relevant supporting evidence (screenshots, videos, match replays). If you have been banned, you have no course to ask about the reasons for your ban, or exactly how long said ban will be. 

DATA PRIVACY AND PROTECTION

Relic monitors in-game activity using a secure software tool which has been developed internally by Relic. This tool collects certain data from players (such as hashed IP addresses, player IDs, etc.) and helps us to detect, investigate and prevent cheating in our games and tournaments, as well as all other violations listed in this Code of Heroes. Relic collects, processes, and retains this data, which may include personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

The success of Company of Heroes in part, relies on the cooperation and character of our community. To ensure that we foster a welcoming and inclusive space for all, we ask that community members hold each other accountable and adhere to this Code of Heroes. This code operates in conjunction with the SEGA EULA (Terms of Service) and applies to our games, forums, tournaments, engagement with Relic and/or our community on social media platforms, and all other official platforms relating to the Company of Heroes franchise.  

We want our community to continue to thrive and those members are treated fairly and with respect. We can only achieve this goal if we work together.  

This Code of Heroes, though non-exhaustive, sets out the standards and behavior that we expect from our community. Additionally, we have provided guidance as to how Relic will respond to inappropriate, threatening and/or offensive actions or behaviors.  

Relic reserves the right to discontinue provision of the forum and/or any official platform for the Company of Heroes franchise at any time. Further, Relic may remove members and/or content from the game or community where it violates this Code of Heroes. Relic reserves the right to amend and update this Code of Heroes at any time by changing it as it applies to your engagement with our community. Relic may also take any action against member accounts that violate the spirit of this Code of Heroes or breach our account terms, to uphold the integrity of our games, products and services and to provide the expected in-game and community experience to our members. For the avoidance of doubt, we reserve the right to evaluate each incident on a case-by-case basis and to take action in relation to conduct/behavior that impacts our community, even where the infraction takes place on a third-party platform.

COMMUNITY VALUES

•    Company of Heroes is a franchise to be enjoyed by everyone, and that includes our community spaces.  

•    Our community spaces must be welcoming and accessible for members to share their passion for Company of Heroes.  

•    Members should be treated with respect, kindness, and empathy always. Additionally, treat others as they wish to be treated.  

•    Communicate with each other in a manner that is constructive and collaborative. 

•    Members should expect fair play in an environment that is competitive and free of exploits, cheating or any other bad faith behavior detracting from their experience.  

•    Access our community, including our products and services in accordance with the terms made available to you.  

•    Be conscious that the community can be made up of a diverse audience and use appropriate language.  

•    Report all disruptive behavior. 

•    Respect Relic’s investigation processes and policies. Trust that we will take all necessary action in response to each case. Be mindful that external campaigns do not foster a fair and kind community.  

•    Always do your best in-game and play to win, but be accepting of the fact that people play differently from you or deviate from what is “meta,” and that doesn’t make it griefing or wrong.  

•    Work as a team. Encourage other players and don’t disparage them. Support your teammates, even if things aren’t going your way. 

•    Always protect your account and personal information. Account sharing of any kind is not allowed.

DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR

Disruptive behaviors directed towards other players or Relic staff will not be tolerated. These include, but are not limited to, perpetrating, promoting, glorifying, or advocating for anything listed below:

•    Any form of bigotry, denigration or hate speech including but not limited to racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, ageism, classism, xenophobia, religious discrimination, or linguistic discrimination. 

•    Promotion of Nazism or fascism through any means (iconography, in-game chat, avatars, manipulating in-game assets, etc.)  

•    Expressions of nationalism. 

•    Abusive language (this includes attempting to work around chat and moderation filters)  

•    Posting offensive, indecent or explicit images or content.  

•    Any form of bullying or harassment. 

•    Personal attacks, jokes or comments at the expense of other members.  

•    Threats of violence, encouraging self-harm or endangerment of others.  

•    Spamming chat channels, including spamming advertisements.  

•    Promoting illegal activity or malicious websites or practices.  

•    Revealing or sharing other people's personal information to doxx them. 

•    Posting or broadcasting Relic’s confidential content  

•    Any bad-faith behavior designed to grief others, bait members into breaking the Code of Heroes, or retaliate against another member.  

•    Use of in-game player names or profile names on a Relic owned platform that violates this Code of Heroes. 

•    Impersonation of any community member, public figure, or Relic staff member. 

•    Cheating in any form, including any action or behavior that results in an unfair advantage. This includes stream sniping, match fixing or utilizing any third-party software that disrupts, alters, or manipulates the game. 

•    Exploits and bug abuse. This includes any bug, glitch or unintended game design to gain an advantage in a manner not intended by our designers. This extends to any modification designed to exploit game systems. 

•    Unfair and unsportsmanlike behavior. This includes but is not limited to boosting, win trading, throwing, purposefully losing, feeding unit kills to the enemy, going AFK while in a multiplayer match, teamkilling, etc.  

•    The creation of false or multiple Steam accounts where contrary to official tournament or platform rules. 

•    Sharing login/profile account details with other participants where contrary to official tournament or platform rules. (Sanctions would be applied against both the account holder and the participant utilizing the account). 

•    Use of software to automate in-game actions (e.g.: macros) 

•    Utilizing any gameplay mechanic to purposefully detract from the gameplay experience of another player.  

•    Utilizing any livestream to gain an advantage or cause any disruptive behavior. 

•    Exploiting and/or scamming members. 

•    Any behavior demonstrated to avoid or dodge a ban. This includes playing or acting on any other accounts. 

•    Manipulating or creating false evidence in player reports. 

•    Breach of our company policies and/or agreements, including actions contrary to our EULA which hack or exploit our games and services. 

•    Breaches of national or international laws, including unauthorized disclosure of a another’s personal data. 

REPORTING

This Code of Heroes is a guide for our journey together as a community. Should you experience or witness any behavior that deviates from or violates the Code of Heroes, please help us by following the reporting procedures outlined here. We review all reports and do everything within our power to address them appropriately. 

TOURNAMENTS 

For Relic hosted tournaments and competitions, we will issue additional terms and rules for participants prior to the event. Participants will need to agree to competition terms as part of the registration process. Community led tournaments will also be required to adhere to the full Code of Heroes. These will include terms that cover but are not limited to: 

•    Eligibility and qualification 

•    Registration 

•    Participation, format and dates and times 

•    Match rules and anti-cheat requirements 

•    Observation, casting and refereeing 

•    Results reporting 

•    Appeals and penalties 

•    Prizing and awards

By participating in the Company of Heroes online community and/or services, you agree to be bound by this Code of Heroes, any other applicable Relic terms and conditions and the terms of any third party where relevant (i.e. Steam, Twitch, Discord, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, forums, etc.). 

Relic may also take any action against member accounts that violate the spirit of this Code of Heroes in an effort to uphold the integrity of our games and provide the expected in-game and community experience to our members. 

Please do not send Relic or any of its staff unsolicited ideas or works if you wish for them to remain proprietary or secret.
